The crash happened at 7:48 a.m. along the 3300 block of Rt. 30 near the intersection with Mount View Avenue, police say.
Pennsylvania State Police said Thomas Titus, 51, of Gettysburg, Pa., went into cardiac arrest on scene and was transported to Chambersburg Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two people, Paul Williams, 63, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Lynaya Daywalt, 33, of South Mountain, Pa. were flown to York Hospital with unknown injuries. Lynaya's three passengers in her vehicle, Ericka Hewitt, 15, Dennis Hewitt, 15, and Jasmine Rock, 12, all sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported to Chambersburg Hospital.
Troopers said the three vehicle crash happened when Willams' vehicle was driving east along Rt. 30 near the intersection of Mountain View. Titus and Daywalt were traveling west. Daywalt's vehicle was behind Titus.
Willams' vehicle began drifting into the center turn lane of Rt. 30 and then drifted into the westbound lane of Rt. 30 into the path of Titus' vehicle.
Williams struck Titus' vehicle on the drive-side front bumper area. Titus' vehicle then spun 180 degrees. Williams vehicle continued east, spinning into the path of Daywalt's vehicle, crashing into the front bumper.
Williams vehicle again spun 200 degrees, traveling southwest and coming to a final rest patrically in the center-turn and Rt. 30 eastbound lanes. Titus' vehicle stopped in the grass, bordering the northern shoulder of the roadway. And Daywalt's vehicle drafted northwest and came to a final rest on the northern shoulder of Rt. 30.
Pennsylvania State Police were assisted by Fayetteville EMS Fire and West Shore EMS. Route 30 was shut down for an extended period of time Friday due to this accident.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
