Police Identify Woman Killed On Dual Highway

- HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Hagerstown Police have identified the woman killed early Tuesday morning on Dual Highway as Lisa Ruth Wellham, 58, of Cumberland. Wellham was killed after being hit by a car around 4:00 a.m. The driver of the car did not remain at the scene.

Wellham was found injured in the median of the road. She was transported to a local hospital where she died.

A press release also detailed the events that led up to Wellham being hit.

Police report that Wellham was first identified at a field sobriety checkpoint around 2:00 a.m. in the 700 block of Dual Highway. Officers say they learned she may have been suffering from a medical condition and needed emergency care.

Community Rescue Service provided care for her at the scene, but she refused further treatment. Wellham left her vehicle and was taken to a friend’s house by police.

Wellham is said to have called dispatchers around 4:00 a.m. asking where her car was. Less than 10 minutes later, officers reported finding her in the median of the road.

Police say the investigation into her death is ongoing and they are still seeking information about the vehicle and the driver involved in the crash.
