Frederick City Police say they've received several reports of residents receiving a phone call from a person claiming to be an employee of Potomac Edison.
The scammers tell the victims they owe money on their electric bill, and it will be shut off by the end of the day, according to police.
The victims are told to buy a pre-paid Green Dot money card, call a telephone number, and some money will be taken off that card.
Police say you should call Potomac Edison about your account status if you receive a call like this and give Frederick City Police a call at 301-600-2102. You can also report crimes anonymously at 301-600-TIPS (8477) or send an e-mail to email@example.com.
