John Loesch, 76, is always up and running, making sure his heart is in the best shape.
For the past 13 years, he used to have cardiac problems but one exercise program has changed that.
"I think fitness is the most important thing particularly as you age. You really need to stay fit, keeps you mentally alert as well as feeling better physically," said Loesch.
Promotion Fitness is a program targeted for people over 50 years old and have medical issues, not exactly your typical gym.
Members have an exercise program designed for them and work with physiologists who understand medical conditions and illnesses.
"We're looking at people who say, 'okay, I've got diabetes, what can I do? How can I exercise? Is it safe for me? What's the proper way to do it?" ' said Ali Afrookteh, medical director of cardiac rehab.
Unlike a gym where there are personal trainers, members receive blood pressure monitoring, ensuring no physical activity is too much.
"As you live longer, the heart and the blood vessels tend to get into problems, and so heart disease, heart attacks, congestive heart failure are the common diagnoses that people have when they get older especially 50 plus," adds Afrookteh.
It is an exercise facility that meets healthy lifestyle goals, making an impact on living longer.
