Propane Shortages Across Virginia

WINCHESTER, Va. - In conjunction with the non stop cold, snow and ice, Virginia is experiencing a state-wide propane shortage.

The U.S. Department of Energy reported that they've seen the largest draw of propane this season since the department was started 27 years ago.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that propane is up to $3.75 per gallon in Virginia, versus the $2.89 per gallon at this time last year.

"Because of the extreme cold weather that has continued through the winter, propane supplies not only in Virginia, but across the United States are tight,” said Baron Glassgow, Senior Director at the National Propane Gas Association.

Officials are offering some advice when it comes to relying on propane heat during the winter.

"If they're not already on a scheduled route for delivery, simply call the propane company when their tank level reaches 30 percent,” Glassgow said. "Also, don't bring your gas grill inside the house.
