Route 220 Reopens After Police Chase Ends in Serious Crash

- CUMBERLAND, Md. - Route 220 between I-68 and Pennsylvania reopened Thursday morning after a police chase ended in a serious crash. 

Around 3 a.m. Thursday morning Pennsylvania State Police began pursuing a 2001 Dodge truck that was reported to be stolen. The chase then entered Maryland on US Rt. 220. Troopers with Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack were able to deploy stop-sticks, causing three of the four tires to deflate. 

Pennsylvania State Police continued to pursue the truck southbound on US Rt. 220. They say the vehicle traveled off of the roadway, where it overturned and ejected the driver. 

The driver, Corey Clingerman, 18, of Everett, Pa., was flown to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Trooper 5, where he's reported to be in critical condition. 

Maryland State Police Crash Team responded to the scene Thursday morning and are currently investigating the accident.
