WHAG NEWS - A list of Maryland's top 40 high schools was just released, and several Washington County schools made the list.

Barbara Ingram School for the Arts earned fifth place on the list by U.S. News and World Reports, which ranked the schools based on their student to teacher ratio; how seniors score on their AP exams, and how they perform in reading and math on the state exams.

Also scoring highly was Smithsburg, North High, Clear Spring, and Boonsboro High School.

In order to make the top 40 list, high schools must have been awarded a silver or gold medal on the national level.
