Officials say the program assists homeowners who have no resources available to them in maintaining clear public walkways, as required by city code. The city arranges contact information and matches willing volunteers with residents in need.
"Volunteers are the heart of this program," says Karen Giffin, Community Affairs Manager. "We encourage anyone who can help to call and assist."
Officials say to be considered for the program you must be the owner, live at the residence, have a physical or medical condition, be financially unable to pay for snow removal, or have no additional resources that can help you.
City officials say volunteers will be matched with eligible residents on a first-come first-served basis. They say residents greatly appreciate the help.
"It is a great way to help a neighbor and make a positive impact on someone's life," says Giffin.
