VIRGINIA - New health and safety regulations will now be enforced for abortion clinics in Virginia.

Governor Bob McDonnell signed a law last week, requiring abortion clinics to meet the same standards as hospitals.

The clinics were previously treated like doctors' offices, but now the facilities will need to meet new building standards and new requirements for inspections and record-keeping.

Supporters say the rules will make the clinics safer for patients, but critics say they could force many clinics to close.
