Teen Charged in Cascade Shooting Transferred to Juvenile Court System

- WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD. - A local teenager who was being charged as an adult and facing numerous charges, including attempted first-degree murder, in connection to a shooting incident in Cascade, had his case transferred to the juvenile court system Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court.

Matthew Franklin Hasty was 17-years-old was he allegedly fired shots at three vehicles in the area of Fort Richie Access Road and Buena Vista Road on April 16, 2014. None of the victims were harmed.

Hasty turned 18-years-old on July 1, 2014, but because he was 17-years-old when the crime was committed, he applied to have his case transferred to the juvenile court system. On Tuesday, August 26 that request was granted.

According to court officials, Hasty's charges are being put aside and the District Attorney's Office will now have to write up a new set of charging documents under the juvenile system. These charges filed against Hasty will not hold the same severity in punishment, as adult charges would.

Court documents indicate Hasty suffered from several forms of mental illness. Hasty is currently being held at the Western Maryland Children's Center in Hagerstown.
