Two Arrested for Theft, Alcohol Related Charges

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. - Washington Township Police have arrested two people after they say the duo stole hundreds of dollars in merchandise, then fled from the scene while driving under the influence. 

The incident happened Saturday, March 29 around 4:53 p.m. at Peebles on 1525 East Main Street. Officers were conducting a traffic stop inside the Peeble's parking lot when a passerby notified police two people had just committed theft from the store. 

Police pursued the vehicle, and pulled it over at 426 Clayton Avenue. Officers say the driver, Susan Kershner, 45, of Smithsburg, Md., was found to be driving under the influence. The vehicle also had stolen merchandise inside from Peebles, totaling $679.47. 

Kershner is charged with fleeing and eluding, two counts of DUI, and retail theft. The passenger, Barry Edington, 57, of Smithsburg, Md., was charged with retail theft and being drunk in public. 

Both are currently being held at the Franklin County Prison.
