The owners of the two-story, single family home, Matthew and Heather Reinhart and their children were not injured. However, two dogs died in the fire.
The owners thought their home was being broken into after hearing windows break, but found out it was a fire coming from the kitchen, according to Maryland State Fire Marshal. The smoke alarm did go off.
Potomac Valley, Boonsboro, Sharpsburg, Special Ops 20, units from Loudoun County, Virginia, Frederick County, Maryland and Jefferson County responded to the scene.
It took fire crews approximately an hour and a half to put out the blaze.
The house is considered a total loss, and the estimated cost in damages is approximately $530,000, according to Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross at the moment.
