Two Juveniles Find Loaded Handgun Reported Lost by Agency

- HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Hagerstown City Police are investigating an incident where two juveniles found a loaded handgun Friday morning that had been reported missing with another agency.

Officers say at 11:47 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 they responded to the 1000 block of Security Road in Hagerstown in reference to a juvenile finding a loaded handgun. Police say when they arrived on the scene they made contact with the property manager, and took custody of the gun.

The property manager told police two juveniles discovered the handgun by a row of bushes on the property. The officers spoke with the two juveniles who led them to the location where they found the handgun. One of the males told officers when he found the gun he pointed it towards the ground and fired off one round.

Police checked the area and determined that one round was fired into the mulch. The two juveniles told police they took the gun home, where one of the male's sisters took it to the property manager.

Officers say a check of the gun determined the handgun was reported lost with another agency. The investigation is ongoing.

No word on which agency reported a lost fully-loaded handgun, nor exactly how the gun went missing. We're working on gathering more details on this incident.
