Water Rescue in Harpers Ferry, WV

HARPERS FERRY, WV.-  Rescue crews responded to an emergency on the Shenandoah River late Sunday evening.  Somewhere between 10 and 15 people, both children and adults were stuck on the river between Millville, WV and Harpers Ferry, WV.      

A staging area was set up at Harpers Ferry Middle School to treat those who were rescued.  Responding rescue units came from Jefferson County, WV, Loudon County, VA, Allegany County, MD among others.  Crews began responing shortly before 10:00PM Sunday evening.  Two helicopters were on scene to help pull victims from the water.

It's not clear at this time how the victims ended up in the water.  As of 11:30PM Sunday evening, several people had been rescued and were receiving medical attention at the medical staging area.    As of 11:30PM rescue efforts were still ongoing.  Stay tuned to NBC 25 and your4state.com for updates as they become available.
