WINCHESTER, Va. - For the third year in a row, the Winchester Parks Foundation has received a generous donation for dog park improvements from the Elizabeth C. Clarke Foundation, officials say.

This year's donation allows Winchester Parks & Recreation to add doggy playground equipment, nine total, along with two picnic tables with shade structures. The dog park is located in Jim Barnett Park.

Officials say in order to install the new equipment, the dog park will be temporarily closed from April 14-18, 2014.

Since 2012, donations from the Elizabeth C. Clarke Foundation have allowed for the following improvements to be made to the Winchester Dog Park:
  • 2012 ($4,000) - ADA pathway to the dog park gate and new accessible parking spaces
  • 2013 ($5,000) - Small dog area with exterior entrance and water line inside the gate
  • 2013 ($10,000) - Play equipment and two picnic tables with shade structures
