Couple loses Franklin County home in fire

Smoke could be seen from miles away

LURGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A house has been lost after a multiple-alarm fire in Franklin County.

According to the West End Fire & Rescue Company Fire Chief, no one was hurt, but the couple that lived in the home, in the 1600-block of Cumberland Highway, has been displaced  and is being helped by the American Red Cross.

The fire started in the garage just before 10 a.m. and quickly spread to the upper level of the house.

The chief said that on the way to the scene, the smoke from the blaze could be spotted miles away.

"Our stance was and should be, it should not get any worse when we arrive, and it did not,” said Chief Jamie. “We held it to what was already damaged. I don't believe a whole lot more got damaged after we arrived. So, I believe it was a successful operation."

There's currently no word on the cause of the blaze.
