WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Washington Township is preparing for the 2020 census as they work with the Census Bureau to nail down all the new housing in the area.
Township officials said having an accurate census is important because it determines their Pennsylvania Liquid Fuels money, which funds projects to support construction, reconstruction, maintenance and repair of public roads or streets and it's determined by how many people are in the region.
Officials also said there hasn't been much growth in the area in the last 10 years.
The township supervisor, Mike Christopher, said they would likely only increase by 400 to 600 people. Residents will start getting information about the census in 2020.
