On 1/12/12 at 12:30 am Cumberland Police Officers on patrol stopped a vehicle in the area of N. Mechanic Street for a traffic violation.
Upon making contact with the driver, Cody Randall Feaster, age 21, of Ridgeley, he was found to be driving on a suspended driver's license and was arrested.  A further check revealed that Cody Feaster was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant charging him with theft and forgery as well as an outstanding Bench Warrant charging him with failure to pay court fines.
While officers were on the scene of the traffic stop they recognized a passenger in the vehicle as Matthew Jason Swick, age 19, of Cumberland who they knew to be wanted on two outstanding bench warrants charging him with violation of probation.    Upon confronting Matthew Swick he gave a false name resulting in additional charges of giving a false name to police to avoid apprehension as well as obstructing and hindering an investigation.
Following their arrest both subjects were taken before a District Court Commissioner with Cody Feaster being held on $5200 bail and Matthew Swick being held on $2000 bail.
On 1/2/12 Cumberland Police Officers responded to an Oldtown Road business for a report of a stolen purse.  Upon arrival a female victim reported that her purse had been stored inside the business and was now missing.  Employees conducted a check of the businesses video surveillance which led to the identification of a suspect.  Officers continued the investigation which resulted in the recovery of the stolen purse and the arrest of the suspect, Beverly Frances Pendergast, age 37, of Cumberland.  Beverly Pendergast was charged with misdemeanor theft and taken before the District Court Commissioner where she was released on her personal recognizance pending trial.
