Unique Local Food Favorites Showcased in Guide Book

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va - Officials announced Tuesday 21 local restaurants and farmer markets have been featured in a new food guide.

The local food map guide, Bon Appetite Appalachia, showcases food favorites like Orrs Farm in Martinsburg and the Bloomery Plantation Distillery in Charles Town.

The Distillery's production manager, Bill Nicewarmer said it feels good to be noticed after three years and his plantation has won more than 20 food awards.

Governor Earl Tomblin, the Appalachian Regional Commissioner (ARC), Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Tourism Commissioner Amy Goodwin, Food Traveler Associate Publisher Bob Ford, West Virginia Agriculture Commissioner Walt Helmick, along with representatives from the Tourism Commission kick-started the new food guide with free tastings and welcome speeches in Charleston, West Virginia. 

Rob Locey, a local farmer, said he enjoys doing business in West Virginia and all have been a huge plus for his business.

"The local reception has been phenomenal," Locey said. "We grow the lemons, the raspberries, the ginger, the walnuts and the pumpkins and use all natural ingredients and use special fruit and corn.
