Addiction Recovery System holds open house in Winchester

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Addiction Recovery System (ARS) held its open house in Winchester on Thursday

The programs offers help to those suffering from addictions, as well as their families.

The area has been hit hard by a drug epidemic; 17 people have overdosed in northern Virginia since the new year.

Marla Harp, executive director, said the clinic helps alleviate the epidemic.

“The epidemic is getting stronger and stronger here,” Harp said. “And it’s time to really let people know what services are out there in their community and what’s available to help.”

By raising awareness, the clinic hopes to decrease the stigma of addiction and increase recovery options.  Every third Thursday of every month, a family and friends support group meeting is held at 5 p.m.
