Gov. McAuliffe calls his order the Clean Energy Virginia Initiative

VIRGINIA - Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that since he feels Washington, D.C. abdicated its responsibilities to defend against the threat of climate change, his administration would take action to ensure the Commonwealth would be prepared.

The executive directive directs the Department of Environmental Quality to develop a new, first-of-its-kind in Virginia, regulation to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from Virginia's power plants.

Gov. McAuliffe calls his order the Clean Energy Virginia Initiative and said the plan would help the state address issues linked to climate change including flooding, air quality and health.
