Martinsburg JCPenney closing due to 'long-term profitability' project

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Foxcroft Towne Center JCPenney will be closing next month.

Last September, officials with the Foxcroft Towne Center, formerly known as the Martinsburg Mall, announced that the facility would be closing, with the exception of Bon-Ton and JCPenney.

On Friday, the chain announced that they will be closing 138 stores -- including Martinsburg's -- and relocating their supply chain facility from Florida to California to align with the company's "physical store footprint and omnichannel network."

Company officials say 5,000 positions will be impacted by the closures.

Stores will start closing on April 17.
