Martinsburg Police Department holds Police Unity Tour fundraiser

The proceeds go to the National Law Enforcement Memorial

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - On Monday night, the Martinsburg Police Department was at the Chipotle on Foxcroft Avenue for their Police Unity Tour fundraiser.

The Police Unity Tour is an annual bicycle ride that raises awareness for officers who are killed in the line of duty. Chipotle contributed 50 percent of the proceeds to the police for those who said they were there to support the fundraiser. The money that the police department raises goes to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. And Corporal Stephen Strickler rides every year because he feels for the officers who were killed.

“That averages out to one every three days. And we're police officers, but people don't think of the human side of a police officer, we're husbands and fathers and wives and daughters,” said Strickler.

Corporal Strickler says that each officer who rides is responsible for raising $1,800. And he says riding in the Police Unity Tour is one of the best things he's gotten to do as a police officer.
