Savannah starting RHP Seth Lugo (1-0) was responsible for keeping the Suns off the scoreboard for six innings, and by doing so he earned the win. Lugo gave up five hits, walked one, and struck out seven. Starting RHP Austin Voth (1-1) pitched just 1.1 innings and suffered the loss for Hagerstown. He allowed three earned runs on one hit and three walks. The Suns used six pitchers total for the game, with no one lasting longer than 2.2 innings.

The three walks Voth allowed all came in a row with one out in the second inning. Then catcher Jeff Glenn came to the plate, and he sent a double to center field, driving in two to break the scoreless tie. Shortstop Phillip Evans followed up with a sacrifice fly to right to put the Sand Gnats ahead 3-0.
Savannah tacked on two more runs in the fifth. Second baseman Dilson Herrera drew a leadoff walk, and he scored from first when the next batter, 1B Cole Frenzel, doubled to right. Frenzel moved to third on a one-out single by 3B Jeff Reynolds, and scored when Glenn hit another double to center field.
The final Sand Gnats run scored in the top of the eighth. Designated hitter Eudy Pina led off with a triple to right field. Center fielder Brandon Nimmo then sent him home with a sacrifice fly to center field to put Savannah up by six.
Hagerstown finally ended the shutout in the bottom of the eighth when RF Bryan Lippincott hit a triple with two on and two outs. The triple was the first of the postseason for the Suns, and the only extra-base hit of the night for Hagerstown. Each team finished the night with eight hits.
