Early Voting Polls for WV Primaries Open

Election day for the West Virginia primary is two weeks away, but early voting began Wednesday.

BERKELEY CO, Wv.— Election day for the West Virginia primary is two weeks away, but early voting began Wednesday.

Despite the rainy weather, Berkeley County Election officials say they saw plenty of people come out to the polls on the first day of early voting.

"On election day, the polls open at 6:30 AM and close at 7:30 PM, but it's one day. If something happens and you can't do it that day, you've missed out,” said Bonnie Woodfall, Berkeley County Chief Deputy Clerk.

Throughout West Virginia, early voting polls are open from 9 AM to 5 PM until May 10, including Saturdays.

In Berkeley County, registered voters can go to the voter registration office in Martinsburg to cast a ballot. Those in Jefferson County can go to the courthouse in Charles Town, and in Morgan County, you can vote at the courthouse in Berkeley Springs.

Election officials say the turnout for early voting usually picks up as time goes on, so they are continuing to remind people that casting a ballot ahead of time is possible.

"[We’re] just encouraging everyone to get out and vote. Exercise that right. You have it,” said Woodfall.

West Virginia primary election day is May 13.
