The republican primary candidates for state representative of the 78th district are Joshua Lang and incumbent Jesse Topper. This year, the district still includes all of
Lang says his time in the army has given him the leadership skills necessary to represent the district. He served from 2005-2011, and has since been involved with several veterans programs.
"I’ve served as the
Topper took office earlier this year after representative Dick Hess passed away. He highlights his life-long work in the community and business experience.
"I worked for
If elected, Lang says he wants to focus on reducing property taxes and the state's debt.
"School property taxes, I believe it is getting outrageous and I want to look at how can we more efficiently fund K-12 education,” said Lang.
Meanwhile Topper says he wants to improve the public pension system and make
"Pension reform … is a huge issue, it's really burdening our economy and if we don't do something the burden will fall on the taxpayers,” said Topper.
Both candidates say regardless of the results, they will remain committed to the community they wish to serve.
