167th Airlift Wing Holds Change of Command Ceremony

"It is a big step for me, but the responsibility is with the wing. It's my opportunity and challenge to lead these great people into the future here," said Perkowski.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - It was a ceremony of change in command. Colonel Shaun Perkowski assumed command of the West Virginia Air National Guard's 167th Airlift Wing from Colonel Roger Nye.

"We’ve celebrate he time-honored tradition of the change of command. For the last six years or so, I’ve been commander of this wing. Today I turn the command and the responsibilities over to Colonel Shaun Perkowski," said Nye.

Former Wing Commander Roger Nye, who began his military career in the 167th Tactical Airlift Group in 1978, received his commission through the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science in 1979. Nye has flown as a crew member in many unit deployments and has performed airlift missions throughout the world.

"It's a mixed feeling. I'm proud, humbled and honored to have the responsibility for these great people and they are great," said Nye.

The Outgoing Wing Commander Shaun Perkowsi earned his commission from the United States Air Force Academy in 1989. He also served as Commander of the 167th Airlift Squadron. Perkowski expressed excitement in this new opportunity.

"It is a big step for me, but the responsibility is with the wing. It's my opportunity and challenge to lead these great people into the future here," said Perkowski.

While the ceremony represented a transition in the change of command, the wing is also going through a transition through their aircraft.
