FREDERICK, Md. - You can get some exercise in Frederick and support a good cause at the same time.

The Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund Pink Ribbon 5K Run and Walk will be held on Saturday, October 5th. The event starts at 9 a.m. at Baker Park.

"This is the 14th year of the breast cancer fund, and this year we expect to go over the million dollar mark in our fundraising efforts," says Patty Hurwitz, who co-owns Colonial Jewelers.

Proceeds from the Pink Ribbon 5K will help fund breast cancer research and treatment through the fund at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

"The race is important because it does increase awareness of breast cancer, and it is raising much-needed funds for the local treatment and diagnosis of women here in Frederick County," Hurwitz says.

Hurwitz is a breast cancer survivor. She hopes to race can help other women in Frederick become a survivor.

"I think it's always good to encourage women to get tested for breast cancer and not be afraid of it, so any of these events we can do I think can only help in that regard," Hurwitz says.
