Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Arrested on Drug Charges

An assistant prosecuting attorney was suspended without pay after being arrested for drug distribution charges last Thursday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, WV - An assistant prosecuting attorney was suspended without pay after being arrested for drug distribution charges last Thursday.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office of West Virginia, James Casimiro III was arrested for two counts of distributing the prescription drug oxycodone.

Allegedly Casimiro sold an unspecified amount for $300 on May 31 and June 25. After his arrest, Casimiro was released on bond Thursday afternoon.

Casimiro has worked for the Prosecuting Attorney's Office since 2006 and Ralph Lorenzetti, Jr, Prosecuting Attorney, says if necessary his position will be terminated.

"Everybody has problems but you know this type of problem, very much surprised me and my office," says Lorenzetti.

The U.S. Attorney's Office of West Virginia announced Casimiro's arraignment will be August 7.
