STEPHENS CITY, Va. - On Friday, a group of Sherando High School students and athletes gave back in a special way.

The group participated in Warriors Together. Students of the gifted independent study program, along with football players and cross country runners were out helping students with special needs.

The Sherando students and athletes showed them how to play football and other athletic activities.

Organizers say this was all in an effort to raise funds for Area 13 Special Olympics in Frederick County.

"Just seeing how happy these kids are to be a part of something and to see how excited they are to just run around the field. It's so amazing, it just makes me feel great to see them smiling," said Mariah Krissman.

The Warriors Together event raised more than $1,000.
