HAMPSHIRE COUNTY, W.Va. - Police in Hampshire County are investigating after officers say a body was spotted along a road near Augusta on Thursday.
Hampshire County Sheriff's Deputies were on the scene Thursday on Hickory Corner Road along the Hickory Corner Subdivision in Augusta.
"The body was seen in Hickory Corner Road. We are investigating from there," said N.J. Sions of the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say they have been canvassing the area since 6 a.m. Thursday after receiving a tip from a passerby. Residents say they're stunned to see police presence in the area.
"This is a quiet, country community where people leave their homes open, properties open. Eight years I have been a resident, nothing like this has occurred before," said Bill Saunders, an Augusta resident.
"In our neighborhood we don't see this," said Andy Shamburg, an Augusta resident. "This neighborhood is a neighborly neighborhood, everybody here knows everybody, we don't see stuff like this."
Residents hope the case will be solved so normalcy can return to this community.
"It's a process that I know, rest assured I know, they will solve it," said Stacy Davis, an Augusta resident. "Everything will be taken care of soon."
Police aren't releasing specifics of the investigation, but we expect to learn a lot more about what happened. Deputies right now are only calling this an isolated incident. We'll let you know when we learn more.
