Child Accidentally Sets Fire to Hagerstown Home

It happened around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday on the 18000 block of Rolling Road.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating after a four-year-old child accidentally set the family's Hagerstown home on fire. 

It happened around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday on the 18000 block of Rolling Road. Officials say the homeowner's child was on the second floor master bedroom playing with a lighter on the parent's bed, when the bedding caught fire. 

A total of 40 firefighters from Longmeadow, Maugansville, City of Hagerstown Engine 2 and 4, and Special Ops 20, Air and Rehab Unit responded to the scene. They were able to get the fire under control in 15 minutes. 

One firefighter was treated for injuries and was released on the scene. 

Officials say the homeowners are being assisted by family members. Damages are estimated around $40,000.
