Andrew Buchanan Elementary School Teacher Passes Away

Mike Cooper, a 4th grade English teacher at Andrew Buchanan Elementary School died Thursday, after falling ill during a faculty meeting, according to a spokesperson for the Chambersburg Area School District.

FRANKLIN CO, Pa. - Mike Cooper, a 4th grade English teacher at Andrew Buchanan Elementary School died Thursday, after falling ill during a faculty meeting, according to a spokesperson for the Chambersburg Area School District.

Cooper taught at the elementary school and coached the boy’s basketball team at Chambersburg Area Middle School North for 11 years. He was most recently coaching the 8th grade team at CAMS North.

"Our sincere condolences go out to the Cooper family on the loss of their loved one," said Tammy Stouffer, spokeswoman for the Chambersburg Area School District.

Cooper reported feeling sick during a morning faculty meeting at Andrew Buchanan Elementary School, Stouffer said. He was immediately transported by ambulance to Chambersburg Hospital. It is unclear if Cooper died on the way or at the hospital.

Counselors and psychologists are being provided by the school district for any affected staff and students. The first day of school for the Chambersburg Area School District is Monday, August 25.
