MURRYSVILLE, Pa. - Authorities say 19 students and one staff member are injured in a stabbing at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh.

While some of the injuries are serious, all of the victims are expected to survive.

Authorities say the suspect is a 16-year-old male Sophomore student at the school. He's currently in custody and being questioned by the Murrysville Police Department.

The incident started just after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning when the student entered the school carrying two knives and started attacking students.

Local and national media have heard of a number of stories about the heroic efforts of some of the students. One pulling the fire alarm to alert students to get out of the building. Others reportedly putting pressure on the wounds of injured classmates to help keep them alive. And then the school recourse officer who helped take down the suspect and stop the attack.

Governor Tom Corbett issued the following statement regarding the multiple stabbing incident at the school.

As a parent and grandparent, I can think of nothing more distressing than senseless violence against children. My heart and prayers go out to all the victim and their families."

Governor Tom Corbett also stated, "I have directed the Pennsylvania State Police to assist local law enforcement in its investigation in any way possible. Other state resources will be made available to the community, if needed. I assure the citizens of Murrysville that they have the full support of my administration."
