Benefit Raises Money for Dominican Republic

FREDERICK, MD - A local woman shot and killed by her husband last month played a big role in organizing a performance fundraiser that took place Saturday night.

The performance, "Moving Mountains" is a benefit to raise money for plantation workers in the Dominican Republic.

Miss Frederick, Franki Trout, organized the benefit with the help of her late grandmother, Anne Metz.

Police say Metz was shot and killed in late September by her estranged husband during a domestic dispute.

During the performance everyone took a moment to remember Metz.

"My grandmother was an integral part in putting the show together, she was in charge of the silent auction and she put so much effort into talking to businesses and trying to get items for the businesses to donate. So it means a lot to me that we can continue to put this show together and do it for her because she put so much work into it," said Trout.

The final goal of Mission Ryan is to build mini-clinics in each of the 25 villages to provide long term health care.
