Bill Allowing Bow Hunters to Carry a Pistol Passes Maryland Senate

Edwards says a bow and arrow would not adequately protect hunters if a bear tried to attack them.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A bill to allow bow hunters to carry a handgun for protection from bears in Western Maryland passed in the Maryland Senate Wednesday.

Senate Bill 231 passed with a 43-to-two vote and now moves to the Maryland House of Delegates.

Senator George Edwards (R) - Garrett, Allegany and Washington Counties sponsored the bill, which allows people hunting with a bow and arrow in Garrett, Allegany and the western part of Washington County to openly carry a pistol.

Edwards says a bow and arrow would not adequately protect hunters if a bear tried to attack them.
