According to Pennsylvania State Police, Roy Adams, 57, who lived with his ex-wife, came home to find his ex-wife with her 51-year-old boyfriend, identified as Thomas Olson. Police say a fight broke out between Adams and Olson at a home on the 8100 block of Talhelm Road.
During the dispute, Adams shot Olson with a .25 cal handgun and then turned the gun on himself, authorities say. Adams was declared dead, and Olson was initially flown to York Hospital in serious condition. The woman involved was not injured.
According to Trooper Robert Kicks, Olson succumbed to his injuries Monday morning. Neighbors say they are stunned.
"It never happens in my area,” said neighbor Kathy Bingaman. “That was the last thing I ever expected."
"We’ve lived here for 32 years and nothing like this has ever happened back here before,” said neighbor Jason Stumbaugh. “It definitely hits a little too close to home."
However, some who live nearby say they have heard arguments coming from that home before. One neighbor says she has even seen police cars visit the home on multiple occasions in the past.
"Maybe three times I’ve seen cop cars up there,” said Bingaman.
It is a domestic dispute that ended tragically, but neighbors say they think it is an isolated incident that does not affect their sense of safety.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
