The cause of death has been released for a 72-year-old Martinsburg woman, who was brutally murdered in her own house over the weekend.
BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. - The cause of death has been released for a 72-year-old Martinsburg woman, who was brutally murdered in her own house over the weekend.

The West Virginia Medical Examiner’s office says Martha Tyler died from ligature strangulation and smothering.

As we’ve reported, police found Martha’s body inside her home along Picture Mountain Drive Saturday afternoon. She was found with a bag over her head, and her hands tied behind her back.

Deputies say there were no signs of forced entry, but two weeks ago her door was kicked in by an intruder, who took off with her purse.

The case continues to be pursued by the Investigations Division of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Department at (304)-267-7000.
