FREDERICK COUNTY, Va. - According to Virginia State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, both agencies were involved in a high speed car chase Thursday afternoon.

It all started when West Virginia State Police put out a lookout notification for a vehicle. A VSP trooper saw the vehicle, and attempted to make contact.

The trooper was unsuccessful in stopping the vehicle, and the car got away somewhere in the vicinity of Interstate-81 in Frederick County. That's when a Frederick County Virginia deputy located the vehicle and re-initiated the pursuit.

It is not clear when, but sources said at times during the pursuit, the vehicle traveled into the wrong lane, driving directly into oncoming traffic. The pursuit ended on Brucetown Road, when the driver pulled into a driveway and fled the scene on foot.

A passenger inside the vehicle was detained, and the driver was later located in a nearby wooded area.

Police said the driver, who is not being identified at this time, was taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center. Both Virginia State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office are seeking warrants on various charges.
