FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. - Clarence “Chip” Jewell, director of the Frederick County Emergency Communications Department will serve as  the new Fire & Rescue Services Director Volunteer-Chief beginning August 11, 2014.

The Frederick Board of County Commissioners decided on the new position after volunteer fire companies in the Frederick County area asked for a liaison between the various services to improve communication.

“I believe it will be a great opportunity but also a proactive position to support the volunteer fire & rescue service of Frederick County,” said Jewell.

The director volunteer-chief, must report to the county manager, work closely with the division of fire and rescue services, and the fire and rescue association executive board, a responsibility Jewell said he's familiar with.

“I have been meeting with the association leadership and the leadership of the division of fire & rescue services to compile some issues and ideas of what we can do together to both improve the overall fire & rescue services, but in particular the volunteer fire & rescue services,” said Jewell.
