JEFFERSON COUNTY, W.Va. - Fire crews battled a house fire for approximately two hours Saturday night along King Street in Middleway.

The blaze broke out just before 9 p.m. Dave Barrett, the owner and only resident of the home, said he was working on his motorcycle in a back room of his house when the engine caught fire.

The fire immediately was out of control and Barrett dialed 911. The chief with the Middleway Fire Department says crews were able to put out the blaze around 10:45 p.m.

Luckily, Barrett did escape without injuries but one firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

The damage of the home was extensive and has been deemed a total loss.
