Fire Destroys Barn Near Mt. Airy

Fire and Rescue units from Frederick and Carroll Counties were dispatched at 3:52 a.m. to the 13600 block of Glissans Mill Road for the report of a fire.
MOUNT AIRY, Md. - Members with the County Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a barn near Mount Airy early Tuesday morning. 

Fire and Rescue units from Frederick and Carroll Counties were dispatched at 3:52 a.m. to the 13600 block of Glissans Mill Road for the report of a fire. 

The first arriving unit reported a barn, about 60' by 60' fully involved in flames. 

The Incident Commander quickly requested additional water tankers, due to no public water system in the immediate area. 

The bulk of the fire was knocked out by 5:45 a.m., and firefighters continued to extinguish hot spots, monitor conditions and conduct overhaul. Around 50 firefighters were on the scene from Mount Airy, Libertytown, New Market, Union Bridge, Winfield, Walkersville, New Windsor, Green Valley, Independent, Spring Ridge and United. 

No injuries were reported. 

According to fire officials, the cause and origin of the blaze remains under investigation. The total loss was estimated at $500,000 as the contents of the barn included a combine and three tractors.
