Fire Destroys Garrett County Home

There was no one home at the time of the blaze, and a family dog was tied up outside the residence and move by the fire dept. for safety, Collins said.
GARRETT COUNTY, Md. - A large fire left one Garrett County family without a home. 

The fire happened at 4:21 p.m. Monday, August 18 at a house located at 368 Church Street in Deer Park. 

Chief Ken Collins, Deer Park Community Volunteer Fire Dept. said crews arrived on the scene to a working house fire. 

The home was owned by Joseph Harper. There was no one home at the time of the blaze, and a family dog was tied up outside the residence and move by the fire dept. for safety, Collins said. 

No injuries were reported. The home is reported to be a total loss, and the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

About 30 firefighters responded, with Deer Park and Oakland VFD's, the County Cascade Unit stationed at Deep Creek VFD, and the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad. 

The fire is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
