Maryland State Police say four people were taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning for minor injuries following a two vehicle crash along Interstate-81.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - Maryland State Police say four people were taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning for minor injuries following a two vehicle crash along Interstate-81.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 on the ramp from MD 58 to I-81 southbound.

Troopers say the investigation into the crash revealed that a 2006 Ford E-350 van, driven by Anastasia D. Alexander, 43, of Falling Waters, W.Va., struck the back of a 2009 Kia Rio, driven by Carmen Winiarski, 54, of Martinsburg.

They say Winiarski was attempting to merge onto I-81 southbound from the MD 58 ramp, and was yielding to traffic when she was struck from behind by Alexander. Police say both Alexander and Winiarski were transported to Meritus Medical Center for minor injuries. Two passengers from Alexander's vehicle were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

State police say one lane of I-81 was shut down Tuesday morning for about 30 minutes. Alexander has been charged with negligent driving. Police say neither alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
