UPDATE: Child Dies after Rear End Collision

Maryland State Police Hagerstown barrack says the accident happened around 10 a.m. Monday at Rohrersville Road in the area of Garretts Mill Road.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - Maryland State Police say a five year old child has died after an accident Monday morning in Knoxville. 

They say the accident happened around 10 a.m. at Rohrersville Road [Rt. 67] in the area of Garretts Mill Road.

Troopers say upon arrival it was discovered a 2013 Buick Vareno has been driving northbound on Md. Rt. 67 and was stopped in the lane preparing to make a left turn onto Garretts Mill Road, when a 2004 Ford Explorer failed to notice the stopped vehicle, and struck the car from behind. 

The driver of the Buick, Helen Hildebrand, of Knoxville, was taken to Meritus Medical Center for treatment, where she remains in critical condition. State police say a five-year-old passenger, identified as Bryer Hendricks, was flown by Trooper 3 MSP helicopter to Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. with serious injuries, where she later died.

State police say the driver of the Ford, Karen See, and an infant passenger were transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment, and have since been released from the hospital. 

Frederick County, Maryland fire and rescue were called in to assist. 

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The roadway was closed for about one hour Monday morning. 

After the conclusion of the investigation troopers say they'll consult with the Washington County States Attorney's office for follow up and charges if appropriate.
