Fraud Scheme Being Investigated in Frederick

The suspect told business owners that their accounts owed money and if not paid by the end of the day, their power would be shut off.

FREDERICK, Md. - A fraud scheme is being investigated after several businesses reported suspicious phone calls.

Local business owners told authorities that a man called them claiming to be a representative from Potomac Edison.

According to the victims, the suspect said their accounts owed money and if not paid by the end of the day, their power would be shut off.

City police said all victims were up to date on their bills.

The Frederick Police Department would like to remind the public not to give out personal or banking information over the phone and to contact Potomac Edison directly for billing questions.
