Thousands Gather to Frederick's 4th of July at Baker Park

Celebrate Frederick brought in their 31st annual Fourth of July celebration at Baker Park Friday with thousands of visitors in attendance.
FREDERICK, Md. - It was all American everything Friday at Baker Park to celebrate Independence Day.

"We're here to watch the fireworks and listen to music and celebrate the Fourth of July," said Meghan Buker, who brought her 3-year-old daughter, Maddy along for her first 4th of July celebration at the park.

Celebrate Frederick staff say they're expecting at least 60,000 in attendance to their 31st annual festival. To maintain the crowds, the Frederick Police Department was on hand to make sure the day went as smooth as possible.

"We're here to keep everyone safe and monitor operations throughout the day. So we'll have officers here assisting folks as they work their way through the park," said Lt. Jason Keckler.

Another festival favorite and 4th of July essential is barbecue. Frank Barnhouse was grilling up a storm on behalf of Wilcom's Inn Bar and Grille.

"It's nice to be out here to support July 4th. Having all the good barbecue pork from Wilcom's Bar and Grille. The burgers, the hot dogs and just being here and enjoying ourselves," said Barnhouse.

Other activities included live entertainment, karate in the park, a dunk tank and the Great Frederick Bathtub Races. Organizers said it's all done with the hopes of bringing in America's birthday in style.

"I don't care how old they are, from young to old, I want everybody to have a great time and enjoy themselves and take in all the fun activities that we have going on," said Caressa Flannery, chair of the July 4th event.
