ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. - The Frostburg State University student who died in a tragic house fire on Friday has been identified.

University officials say they believe the victim is senior Lateef Gazal. They say Gazal, of Bowie, Md., was a member of the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, the Marketing Association and the African Student Association.

As we've reported, firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze around 5:07 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14 at 144 Bowery Street in Frostburg.

Fire officials say three other male students who lived inside the house have been accounted for. Two were able to escape, and were initially taken to Western Maryland Health Center for minor injuries. The other was not home at the time of the fire.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal is still investigating into the origin and cause of the blaze that destroyed the two-story college rental home.

They say the home was equipped with a smoke alarm, but it has not been determined if it activated and notified the students.
