Hedgesville Celebrates Opening of New Library

The new $1.4 million facility, which is located in the 200 block of North Mary Street, took nearly six years to complete.
BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. - Hedgesville residents celebrated the opening of a new library on Monday.

The new $1.4 million facility, which is located in the 200 block of North Mary Street, took nearly six years to complete.

The Hedgesville Public Library spent more than 50 years in the St. Mark's Methodist Episcopal Church building. The new library will offer expanded services such as computer classes, story time, adult programs and new research materials.

"They provide funds for essential services and they now consider libraries as essential, which is fantastic. But in the meantime trying to raise money, neither the State of West Virginia nor the Federal Government have funding for the construction of libraries," said Pamela Cole, library director.

Future plans for the library include more programming, books and a new state-of-the-art gaming area.
