Homeowner Hears Explosion, Garage Bursts Into Flames

The garage and two cars were destroyed in the fire, but luckily, the surrounding homes only received minor damage.
BOYCE, Va. - Crews battled a large garage fire Sunday morning in Clarke County, Virginia.

The blaze broke out at a home at 4 West Main Street in Boyce at around 10:30 a.m.

Robert Ruffner, the home's owner, was getting ready for Easter brunch on his back patio when he says he heard an explosion in his garage.

Ruffner then ran towards the sound, saw flames, heard a second explosion, and immediately dialed 911.

Crews say they arrived on the scene within 15 minutes of the call and had the fire under control in less than half an hour.

Dispatchers with Clarke County Fire and Rescue say four crews from three different counties fought the fire.

The garage and two cars were destroyed in the fire, but luckily, the surrounding homes only received minor damage.

No injuries were reported, and the cause is still under investigation.
